The partnership in production license 048 B recently signed an agreement with Teekay to carry out maintenance work on the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, Petrojarl I. As a consequence, Glitne is expected to keep production going until 2014.
In the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO), submitted to the authorities in 2001, Glitne had a life expectancy of three years. With the help of new technology and a better understanding of the field properties, the licensees have prolonged its life span with almost a decade. This exemplifies Det norske´s vision - how we endeavor to get the most out of our oil resources.
Kristin Gjertsen, Head of partner-operated fields and discoveries, is very pleased with the development and the manner in which the challenges on Glitne have been addressed. - To prolong the life expectancy on Glitne was not just a matter of course. We have had to face several obstacles along the way, both of a contractual and technical nature, as well as with regard to rig access. The fact that these have now been successfully managed is the result of a good and long-term effort from all involved parties. The drilling of a new well is scheduled to commence in the beginning of March. If it proves successful it will increase production substantially, providing the company with good revenues.
Det norske’s share in Glitne is 10 percent. The other licensees are Statoil (58.9 percent, operator), Total (21.8 percent), and Faroe (9.3 percent).
