Buys seismic data outside Lofoten Print E-mail

Det norske has acquired a seismic package for areas outside Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) put the packages out for sale in December 2011. Det norske wants to actively investigate the opportunities also in this area.

Stig Vassmyr, exploration manager for the Norwegian- and Barents Sea in Det norske, says it is natural that Det norske is involved in this.


- For a long time we have been pushing for increased activity in the north. We are always looking for more knowledge about the opportunities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.


NPD collected seismic data outside Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja in the period from 2007 to 2009 on behalf of the government. It is collected both 2D and 3D seismic.

Det norske will now establishe a project to evaluate the new data. In the spring it will have increased understanding of the resource base in the area.
